Can Working Out Change Your Life for the Better?

The answer to that age-old question, “can working out change your life for the better”, is a resounding “YES”! Introducing exercise into your life is a game changer. Particularly if you have shied away from exercise your entire life, taking the necessary steps to integrate exercise into your life may change life as you have known it forever.

After 32 years in the fitness business, folks from every walk of life have crossed my path and without question, in each case, when that person committed to integrating exercise into their lives, their lives improved exponentially. As examples of life-changing outcomes, this week two of my actual client’s stories (everyone has one), will be shared with you. Both of these clients have been positively transformed and hopefully their stories will ignite the fire within you to create your own “new” story. As always, prior to beginning any exercise program, please consult your physician.

*Client #1 and Client #2 will be used to identify their stories to protect privacy.

Client #1 – this client had never exercised in a formal fitness environment in their lives and was very skeptical about a health club setting. They were a complete novice in regards to fitness floor equipment or group exercise programs. Additionally, this individual had experienced several physical set-backs in recent months and was beginning to feel physically trapped. After the initial consultation where their primary goals and objectives were identified followed by a functional movement screen to determine the physical limitations and imbalances, we began their personal training sessions. Initially, there was tremendous apprehension about the fitness floor equipment, possibility of injury, not performing adequately, and extremely concerned about feeling fatigued following the program. However, as time progressed, they began to enjoy their sessions, experiencing the benefits such as increased stamina, stress reduction, improved muscular strength/endurance, flexibility, mobility, stability, clothes fitting better and the “power of completion”. This was their game changer—the power of completion. They had never experienced this specific physical sensation previously and now, the excitement is noticeable regarding their progress. During a session recently, they expressed “I feel great”! We had come a long way from dread, skepticism and insecurity to confidence, strength and optimism!

Client #2 – the second client is a perfect example of a high country resident who has been active their entire lives. They believed that just being active was enough to remain healthy and fit for life yet were experiencing instability and weakness. Therefore, while they had been physical and relatively functional, gently steering them to consider including a regular, structured exercise program into their lives, was no simple task. Their perspective began to change when they relented and began to attend group exercise programs regularly as well as performing a personal training program designed to improve their performance during the outside activities. Fewer aches and pain, being injury-free, increased power, muscular strength, agility, stamina and mobility allowed for greater range of motion when climbing, hiking, biking, and skiing. Now we were able to assess the quality of their performance outside, and link it directly to incorporation of a regular exercise program inside. That was the game changer and now, they are unstoppable!
