Fun Fitness

It goes without saying that being fit requires time, commitment and hard work.  But, fitness can be fun too and this week we are going to highlight several fun ways to get fit and stay fit. As always, please consult your physician prior to beginning any exercise program.

Fun Fitness Plans

The partner plan– Have you been working out alone forever?  Then, try working out with a partner.  It may be so much more enjoyable, motivating, may lead to greater adherence, resulting in better fitness outcomes and it is fun.

The club plan– Join a cycling club or get a group of your friends together and hire an experienced, certified and qualified trainer to teach you a fun, exciting and results-oriented program format that you would all enjoy.  You will walk out of your workout with sweat on your brow and a smile on your face.

The break out of your routine plan – If you participate in large/small group exercise programs, make the decision to try out a new class format this week.  At most top-notch fitness facilities, the large group exercise program formats are diverse and extensive. We encourage our clientele to expand their fitness horizons and add a different class format to their program repertoire on a regular basis.  Great music, expert coaching, motivation and encouragement, individual attention and results are combined with tons of variety resulting in fun for everyone.

If that does not float your boat plan- Try a HIIT class, boot camp class, indoor group cycling class, kickboxing circuit, functional strength, Pilates, yoga, aqua aerobics or rowing class format.  Just keep sampling different formats until you find the right combination of excellent instruction, provided by an instructor/trainer/coach with a sense of humor, who creates a fun class dynamic and provides excellent fitness results.  The perfect fit is out there for you, so keep searching.

If classes aren’t your bag plan-Then try an outdoor activity you have not attempted such as snowshoeing, alpine/Nordic skiing or ice skating in the winter months.  Or, cycling, swimming, soccer, softball, volleyball, basketball or sailing in the summer months.  You might surprise yourself and find an activity that is fun, and supplements your regular exercise regimen effectively.

The play plan – Yes, I said play!  Use a wide variety of fitness tools to create a fun, playful and productive environment. Such as, trampolines, slide boards, punching bags, Gliding Discs, hula hoops, balls of every shape, size and function, jump ropes, resistive tubing, sandbags, TRX Suspension Systems, RIP Trainers, steps, and BOSU balance trainers to name a few of the seemingly endless variety of fitness tools to play with, have fun and get results. 

The in-class or training session partner work plan – It may not work in every class format or training situation, but choosing exercises that enable us to work as partners is a great way to have fun and stay motivated while getting fit.  For example, try passing the medicine ball while linking ankles performing roll ups.  This is a great nose-to-toes core exercise and an effective method of bonding with some of your fellow exercisers.  Bonding creates that team-building atmosphere and almost always leads to fun.
